All hail the godfather...

Well, our last week at RRCC is starting to wrap up now as we only have two more days in the clinic after today. We certainly have a lot to do and only a little time left to do it.
Last night though, I took the opportunity to ride one last "regular" training ride with my Landshark brothers Keith and Eric. I'm sure they get tired of waiting for me on the bike... and the run for that matter, but I wouldn't trade those training rides for anything. Though I vow to return to Pella on a regular basis to continue our training next spring, it's not quite the same as just being able to throw the bike in the truck, pick up Keith and head over to Eric's place for a little 25 and 5 on a Tuesday afternoon. I guess the godfather will just have to get on his bike again and take my place on the Tuesday rides so that I can come back and ride Saturdays with everyone. Besides, someone has to keep Keith and Eric from picking on eachother... Dude, Seriously!!

This week has been a mix of emotions. On the one hand, we are very excited to be one step closer to the closing of our transition at RRCC and the kick off of adventurequest '08 with our trip to the West Coast. On the other hand, we still have a tremendous amount of work to do to make sure we are ready for that trip.

This weekend was also a sad one for the DeBoer family as we mourn the loss of our cousin and friend, Mark Kincaid. Mark passed away suddenly on Sunday evening surrounded by family. We will forever have a very large hole in our family at our regular gatherings because Mark made such a big impact in our lives. He was kind and always a very positive person. He was also very intelligent and I most enjoyed the times we got to watch movies together because Mark and Tammy were great movie buffs and always made it so much fun to watch and discuss the movie. I'll never forget when one of the Batman movies came out and they had us all over for supper first and then on our way to the movie, they presented everyone with their official Batman rings that we all had to wear to the movie. Always a positive influence in my life, Mark will be truly missed.

Bambi and I have our moving sale this weekend on Friday and Saturday to get rid of a few things before we have to store them or move them. We eagerly anticipate our new opportunity in Iowa City and are stoked about our coming trip.

Our plan is to go home to Edgerton for 1-2 weeks first with my requisite (and much anticipated) trip to Sturgis with my Dad and Kyle. This will be my 4th year in a row and I think Kyle and my Dad have been going now for 18 years straight. Kyle was probably the only 5th grader at Edgerton public who got to "experience" Sturgis. I remember when we walked around town as evening went on before our parents made us leave for the hotel at night and we'd get an occassional eye full. Actually, I think Kyle may still have pictures from some of those early trips!!

While I'm at Sturgis, I think Bambi may be going through withdrawls of not having to get up and go to work and check EOB's anymore. Can't say I'm going to miss that!! I'm looking forward to the day (very soon) where she doesn't have to stop by my chair on her way to bed to tell me "Oh, you have to start early tomorrow, and it doesn't look like your going to get a lunch break so you better get some good sleep because you are going to be busy tomorrow." It's going to be very interesting as we travel around the country to see what we can find to talk about once the office is no longer the predominant topic of discussion. It could be like dating all over again - except this time around I don't have as much hair.

Welcome to Adventurequest '08

Welcome to adventurequest '08.

We are Ross and Bambi DeBoer and the goal of this blog is to give our friends and family a place to check up on us while we are off looking for adventure this summer and fall.

Let us catch you up a bit first on why we have this blog and what adventurequest '08 is all about. For the last five years, Bambi and I have been working feverishly to establish, build, and maintain our chiropractic practice. We love our practice and all the wonderful people we have been able to get to know through it. However, as time marches on, we realized that we have been missing out on some of the other finer points in life while we have been completely focused on our business. So, the opportunity arose this summer for us to sell our practice and join another group practice. We are all at once very excited for our new opportunity and the people we will be working with, and sad to leave our little town and all the wonderful people we have gotten to know so well along the way.

However, before going off to join our new opportunity, we decided it was time for us to shift gears a bit and to get out of the fast lane for a while. Many people may find it funny that rural Iowa has a "fast lane" but it does!! Our goal this summer is to live like the old Country Time lemonade commercials that used to be on TV. They reminded us that summer - and life for that matter, are only just so long... so kick back and enjoy a long walk, a swim in the lake, a good bike ride... you get the idea.

So here we are a few months later and we have sold our practice and getting ready to embark on this new adventure. We intend to travel extensively throughout the next 2 months and it is our goal to go out and see as much of this country as we can in the time we have.

We'll use this blog to keep everyone up to date on where we are and what we are up to as well as where we are headed next. We'd love to have people email us along the way and we'll try to include some pictures as well.

Our adventure begins Friday, August 1st at 5pm when we are officially finished with our committment here at RRCC. From there... who knows? Stay tuned to find out...
